Sarasota City Men's Amateur next two weekends

The 40th annual Sarasota City Men's Amateur is a crown jewel for any amateur in the area.

Players like former Ryder Cup winning captain Paul Azinger, current West Florida Golf Tour money leader Joey Lamielle and former Florida State Amateur champ Mark Leetzow have all reigned supreme at the annual gathering at Bobby Jones Golf Complex.

The tournament is also has a unique flavor to it since it's a 72-hole contest conducted over two weekends.

Several Manatee County players are in this year's field, which usually attracts many golfers for the multi-flighted tournament held on the British Course.

This year's venue is revamped as former champ and Bradenton resident Phil Walters said following his title at the Bradenton City Two-Man Combo that the course will have new tee boxes on some holes.

And Walters said those tee boxes are further back in most cases.

Here are the weekend's first and second round pairings.
