PGA Tour: Domenico Geminiani advances to Monday qualifier

Sorry for the delay, but yours truly has been out of action for the past three days nursing a nasty cold bug that seems to be going around the area.

Must be all that pollen floating around.

Rather than catching up on the national news of Tiger's sneaky final round (almost there in the comeback bid?) and Rory's charge to No. 1 (was it just a matter of time?), this blog will kick things back with some local news pertaining to players wishing to get on the PGA Tour, even if it's just for one tournament:

Bradenton's Domenico Geminiani fired a 3-under par 68 at Fox Hollow Golf Club in New Port Richey on Thursday that qualified the 15-year-old professional for Monday's Transitions Championship qualifier.

Geminiani was one of 17 players to advance from Thursday's pre-qualifier for the PGA Tour event scheduled next week.

He made it by two shots, doing so with an eagle on the par-5 15th and a birdie on the par-3 16th before parring his final two holes.

Jake Katz (69) and Roger Hebert (70) also progressed to Monday's one-day qualifier. Both players, like Geminiani, have played in the area on the West Florida Golf Tour.

Two other WFGT regulars, Vince India and Daniel Stone, got through the pre-qualifier on Tuesday at Fox Hollow.

The course played more difficult on Tuesday with 15 qualifiers making it through at scores of 73 or lower. Only two players cracked 70 on Tuesday.

India, last year's Big Ten Player of the Year at Iowa who has relocated to Bradenton, and Stone both posted 73s.

The Monday qualifier is at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville.

The Transitions Championship is the lone PGA Tour stop on the west coast of the Sunshine State during the tour's Florida swing, and is set fto begin next Thursday at the famed Copperhead Course at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor.
